This past summer I had the opportunity to participate in a study abroad program with Texas State University to Europe. During this program we spent the first week visiting Rome, Florence, and Venice while in Italy. For the second half of the trip we explored the city of Vienna in Austria. The education abrod trip I was apart of was a facuilty-led program with professor Harris Dale. Through this program I was able to complete two cources worth six credit hours, Intro to Fine Arts and Honnors International Culture.
While in the cities I was able to experience the culture and lifestyle of the citizens. During our down time we would attend local events such as night markets or simply explore the cities we were in. I prefered to spend my freetime souviner shopping, sight seeing, and trying new cuisines. My favorite souviners ended up being a brown leather purse from Florence, Italy and a magnet of the famous painting, The Kiss by Gustav Klimt in Vienna, Austria. Overall my favorite food item I encountered was a cake I had the opportunity to learn to make in Vienna called Sachertorte. It's a rich dense chocolate cake with a apricot jam filling topped with a dark chocolate glaze.
My participation in this program was the start of my travel journey, from not owing a pasport to exploring major cities with my peers. Including the work and effort put into the coursework, it was one of the greatest things I've been luck enough to experience. I will definetly continue to travel in the future, both abroad and within the states. Study abroad taught me far more than listed in the syllabus, it's the type of learning that can only be taught through first-hand experiences. Traveling with Texas State is one of the best things I've done and I highly recommend it to anybody with the abilty to join their next adventure!
